Dopo lo straordinario successo ottenuto dal violista Diyang Mei all'ARD International Music Competition del 2018, vincendo il primo premio nella categoria viola, il premio del pubblico e diversi premi speciali, la sua carriera internazionale è inarrestabile.

Come solista, Diyang Mei si è esibito con l'Orchestra Sinfonica della Radio Bavarese, l'Orchestra Sinfonica della SWR di Stoccarda, l'Orchestra da Camera di Monaco, la Konzerthausorchester di Berlino, la Scottish Chamber Orchestra e al Festival del Meclemburgo-Pomerania Anteriore, all'SWR Festival Schwetzingen, allo Schwarzwald Music Festival e al Mozartfest di Würzburg. Si è esibito con András Schiff, Vadim Gluzman, Günter Pichler, Gerhard Schulz, Ana Chumachenco, Sabine Meyer, Christoph Prégardien e Frans Helmerson tra gli altri.

Diyang Mei ricopre il ruolo di prima viola principale della München Philharmonic Orchestra dall'autunno del 2019. Nell'ottobre 2022 assumerà lo stesso incarico presso la Berliner Philharmoniker.

Ha vinto il primo premio al 52° Concorso strumentale internazionale per viola a Markneukirchen (2017), al Concorso musicale internazionale Max Rostal per viola a Berlino (2015), al Kulturkreis Gasteig Musikpreis per archi a Monaco di Baviera (2015), all'IVC Young Artist Competition a Rochester (2012), al 19° Concorso internazionale per viola Johannes Brahms in Austria (2012) e al 10° Concorso internazionale per viola e violoncello a Villa de Llanes, Spagna (2008).

Il suo primo album da solista "Transforming Viola" è uscito nel 2019. Nel giugno 2022 uscirà il suo secondo album "Viola à L'Ecole de Paris", a cui è dedicato insieme al pianista tedesco Oliver Triendl.

Diyang Mei ha studiato con Hariolf Schlichtig presso l'Università di Musica e Arti Performative di Monaco dal 2014 e, dall'ottobre 2019, proseguirà gli studi con Nobuko Imai presso la Kronberg Academy. È sostenuto sia dalla Yu Art Foundation in Cina che dal Borletti-Buitoni Trust ed è anche borsista Yehudi Menuhin LMN eV. Suona una viola Antonio Mariani del 1646, generosamente concessa in prestito da una collezione privata.

Ever since violist Diyang Mei’s brilliant success at the 2018 ARD International Music Competition, winning first prize in the viola category, the Audience Prize and several special prizes, he has been steadily furthering his international career.

As a soloist, Diyang Mei has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, the

Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the SWR Festival Schwetzingen, the Schwarzwald Music Festival and the Mozartfest in Würzburg. He has performed with András Schiff, Vadim Gluzman, Günter Pichler, Gerhard Schulz, Ana Chumachenco, Sabine Meyer, Christoph Prégardien und Frans Helmerson among others.

Diyang Mei has held the position of 1st principal viola of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra since the fall of 2019. In October 2022, he will take up the same position with the Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra.

His first solo-album “Transforming Viola” was released in 2019. In June 2022, His second album “Viola à L’Ecole de Paris” will be released, to which he is dedicated together with the German-pianist Oliver Triendl.
